CAPTAIN'S WELCOME ADDRESS
As Club Captain for 2022, I would like to offer a warm welcome to all visitors to Sutton Park Golf Club.
Following two years disrupted by the pandemic, I’m hopeful this year, we can return to something approaching normality on the golf course and all get back to doing what we all enjoy.
Firstly my Thank Yous;
To our outgoing Captain Andy McCann, I think you will all agree that Andy’s Captaincy, due to the pandemic, didn’t quite go as planned! Following 2019, when Andy didn’t get any golf at all, Andy agreed to stay on for an additional year but even 2020 ended up being affected by closures & lockdowns etc. I’d like to thank Andy for his friendship & support during these two years, as well as his commitment, in numerous areas, towards trying to improve the golf course. I know that this will continue beyond his Captaincy.
Secondly, my Thanks go to Steve Dixon, for agreeing to become my Vice Captain. I’m sure most of you know Steve already but for those that don’t, I believe Steve will firstly, enjoy the challenges over the next two years and secondly, thrive, in pushing to improve the course and club.
For members there will be the usual weekly golfing fixtures, both individual & team competitions, these also include qualifiers for the seasons knock out competitions.
I would like to ask that members continue their support of the various ‘Open’ days at local courses, as well as the Hull & District and East Riding Alliance winter leagues. This allows members to play local courses at reduced rates, whilst also ensuring that SPGC remains involved within the local golfing community.
For visiting golfers, SPGC is a well laid out, 18 hole, mature parkland course and it’s a fitting challenge for golfers of all levels. The Lodge is waiting at the end of your round, where you can enjoy drinks and/or food, from the extensive menu. When the weather is kind, this can be from the patio area, which overlooks the 1st Tee & 18th green. You may also catch a glimpse of the local wild deer & birds of prey, both on the course and from the The Lodge.
My aim for the year is to continue Andy’s work, in working with people to improve the golf course, whilst also trying to sell the benefits of club membership, to local golfers without a club affiliation, in which I know Steve will be a great support.
Happy Golfing All
Andy Nicklas – Captain 2022
